Master Teacher Associates Program
Experienced teachers, and occasionally those who have earned a teaching license but who have not yet begun teaching, are eligible for the Master Teacher Associates (MTA) Program. This program provides an extension of the candidate’s current teaching license. Master Teacher Associates undertake advanced study of pedagogy and further their exploration of their core content discipline. The program requires 36 credit hours, lasts for 13 months, and includes coursework and fieldwork to foster the candidate’s development in content, pedagogy, and leadership. This program is offered at the elementary (K-6) and secondary (9-12) education levels.
- Provide concentrated study in the teacher’s subject field or fields
- Extend the teacher’s understanding of the basic humanistic and behavioral studies relating to teaching and learning
- Broaden and deepen the understanding of teaching and learning theory through advanced study accompanied by appropriate clinical experiences
- Assist the teacher in gaining greater insights and skills in the use of the techniques of research and in designing and carrying out research projects
